Left Handed Ukulele Conversion
Most (but not all) ukulele's can easily be converted to Left Handed. Ukulele's with a cutaway for example, can not be converted to left hand.
In it's simplest form, it is just a matter of changing the strings round and making sure the top nut is correct. (Sometimes a set of new strings is necessary) This will give the player a left Handed Ukulele that plays properly. It can also be easily converted back to a Right Handed Ukulele as and when required.
The only thing that left hand ukulele players will not get with this simple conversion , is the marker dots on the side of the ukulele fingerboard will still be on the side for a right handed player. In other words, when the ukulele is held left handed, the marker dots are not seen by the player.
New marker dots can be fitted to the other side of the fingerboard, so that the ukulele now has dots on both sides of the fingerboard. Some ukulele players will find this useful, whilst for other ukulele players, it will not make a difference.
Before getting your ukulele converted to left hand, consider carefully if Left Handed is necessary and appropriate for you. It is worth knowing that many left handed people play their ukulele right handed.
